Health Benefits
  1. Strawberries and raspberries: are incredible sources of nutrients, and strawberries are considered one of the best cancer-fighting fruits on the planet. Once only available in the heat of summer, both strawberries and raspberries are available year-round frozen. Don’t be afraid of frozen berries; they are often frozen within hours of picking, which preserves their vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals.

  2. Cashew milk: is one of the more popular plant-based milk alternatives. Cashew milk is low in calories and fat. When added to a healthy protein shake, cashew milk provides a luxurious and creamy texture. Unsweetened cashew milk has 50% more calcium than dairy milk, cup for cup, and several brands are Non-GMO Project Verified.

  3. Hemp seeds: are packed with protein and 20 amino acids. Research shows that hemp seed has the potential to benefit heart disease and cholesterol levels. Researchers believe that hemp seed has therapeutic promise, and multiple studies stress the need for further high-quality research. They are a great addition to a protein shake without protein powder to provide the nutrients you need.

  4. Flaxseeds: are high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. According to the Mayo Clinic, flaxseeds are more easily digested and the nutrients absorbed when they are ground. In this recipe, if you have a high-powered blender, the flaxseeds should be ground just fine. However, if you notice whole seeds in your smoothie, grind the flaxseeds and the hemp seeds in a spice grinder before adding them to the recipe next time around.

  5. Raw honey: is arguably one of the most healthy substances on earth. Whenever possible, choose raw honey to add to your diet. Honey has medicinal uses too—it can be used on wounds to kill bacteria and viruses, and when added to a smoothie, it can help soothe a sore throat and relieve seasonal allergy symptoms. Honey is one of the healthiest sugar alternatives you can use in a protein shake recipe.
